Superbowl party 1994. The Dallas Cowboys vs. the Buffalo Bills (30-13)
.
I was invited to a Superbowl party. Yawn. Not really my thing. I like football, but not that much. It was the first Superbowl where I had not worked in years. I worked at a local pizzeria (8 years running), and if you are like about a million other people, you get the pizza and wing special for half time. All day long we would sit around waiting for orders and then everyone would pretty much want their food in the same hour window. Usually, the wife or girlfriend would come out in the freezing cold to pick it up, so the men of the house could see all the halftime festivities.
Back to my story….. So anyways, I have nothing better to do, no commitment of working and smelling like a giant fried chicken wing, so I decide to accept. The icing on the cake is that I am told a cute, single guy will be there and I can meet him. Groovy baby.
I arrive all girlie. The men are acting like…….. men, watching football. I am introduced to the single guy and he wants nothing to do with me. I might as well have been a leper sitting in the corner by myself, picking my nose. He is not interested. I don’t even remember if I stayed for the whole thing.
The twist to the story is that the single guy I met at the party was Matt, my husband Charlie’s twin. (Charlie was there too, but “taken” at the time.) Thank God, Matty wanted nothing to do with me, because there is no way I would have dated him and then his twin brother too. Not happening people.
July of the same year, Charlie sees me at a greasy spoon and his eyes are finally opened to all of my beauty and charm. He decides to ask me out and I accept. Our first date: Forest Gump. Long movie for a first date. Thankfully it was love at first, well second sight, and a month later we were engaged.

Ha! Great story! Timing is everything, right?
I didn’t know your hubby was a twin.
Oh my gosh! That’s so funny that he was a twin. Very, very cute story!
You are lucky that his brother wasn’t interested. Very cute story!
Aww, what a fun story. So I’m wondering, are they identical? Did you think your husband was the guy from the party when you saw him, or did you know he was the twin?
I have identical twin sisters and they have boys think they’re the other twin all the time.
They are identical, but look different now. I had my eye on Charlie at the party but he was taken and I figured I’d never see him again anyways.
Tooooo funny!
Hugs, andrea
What a great story! It’s funny how things happen.
Wonderful tale! Strange things do happen – it was meant to be ;o)
I have a twin sister and we never dated each others castoffs either. Besides personalities differ – even in twins – which i am sure you know. What a nice story!
So my post for this was supposed to post yesterday…but obviously I hit “save” instead of “post” as it went up today…along with today’s post. *sigh* BUT it is up!
Great story about how you met…isn’t it funny how things work out?
Lovely story. You got the guy!! How funny about being twins.
What a beautiful story! My cupid story isn’t nearly as romantic since we met through an online dating service!
Football, pizza, and twins, all in one story. How fun! I hope some day Cupid shoots me and I get off the single train.
This is great! Thanks for sharing your story!
Forest Gump was a long movie!
A month later you were engaged? Wow!
I love this! Are they identical? I’ll bet you hate pizza and wings now, right?
Oh! I forgot about this yesterday!
I love this post – love the idea of you going to meet “the cute guy” and he turns out to the be twin of the man you would eventually marry – omg! I am not a romantic, but that sounds like a plot for a funny romantic comedy …
Hi, Diane! Thanks for participating in my contest at Book Dreaming. I love making new blog friends. Good luck.
Great post!
Met mine in a country concert/bar place jammed crammed with people. I looked around in the semi-darkness, saw that cowboy hat and told my twin sister, “You see that guy way over there with the white cowboy hat and blue eyes? I’m gonna marry him.” We’ve been married 25 years.
