This is Your Brain in Love by Dr. Earl Henslin

by Diane Estrella on February 12, 2010

With any book you have high hopes for what you can learn and glean from it.  This book was definitely one I hoped to gain new insights on how my brain is wired and areas where I can grow.

The author primarily focused on five types of brain imbalances that can occur and subsequently affect our love lives:

1. The Scattered Lover-Someone that needs “to slow down, be still, focus or be practical.”

2. The Overfocused Lover-Easily irritated and angered, has difficulty forgiving and moving on, difficulty seeing the positive.

3. The Blue Mood Lover- Depression, anxiety, difficulty being grateful, desire to be alone.

4. The Agitated Lover- Aggressive, trouble with social cues, anger can quickly escalate out of control.

5. The Anxious Lover- Tense, nervous, difficulty feeling pleasure, will avoid conflict, has headaches and body tension.

These five chapters were the crux of the book and provided medical, mental and natural help suggestions to overcoming those areas.  A large encouragement from the author is to get a SPECT brain scan, “when your situation is complicated and you are not seeing improvement or when there’s suspicion of past brain injury or trauma that could be affecting behavior.”  For me, this scan would be interesting and fun.

If you do not fall into one of these categories, then there were a few other chapters that provided general, helpful information on how to better your love life and encouragement in taking it to the next level of healthiness.

Some medical jargon, some nuggets to sift through, made for a slow read.  As with any book, I take from it what I need now and then shelve the rest for future pondering.

Booksneeze sent me the above book for review purposes. It will allow me to keep the book. I have no other connection to and have received no other compensation from Booksneeze.

You’re funny! I did not think I fell into one of the five categories. I’m sure there’s a “special” category out there for me though…..

I’d be almost afraid to have a brain scan —whew, the inside of my brain with all those black holes and swirling thoughts and images and weirdness – gark!

Maybe that’s where our funny bone is really located.

Oh dear. Just when I thought I’d figured my husband and myself out! And it only took 35 years…
But this does sound like a fascinating book. Thanks for the review.

That sounds like the description of a soap opera character lineup! Very interesting.
