At this point, many prayers are going up pleading and curses are going down to that blasted groundhog, to just let winter be over with already! The winter-like state many of us find ourselves in will, hopefully, be coming to an end soon. Sunshine, flowers and all things beachy beckon to us in a dreamlike state of what could be…..
REALITY CHECK here…… the “downside” of Spring and Summer approaching is that, I will have to go rummaging through my drawers to see what will fit after a winter full of hibernating habits. Christmas cookies, comfort foods, sitting and watching TV for hours on end, less trips to the gym, all add up to added pounds. Getting beach ready for some will involve making sure feet are lovely, buffed and toenails painted. For others, shaving the legs more regularly than once a week, and looking in the dreaded full length mirror with last year’s bathing suit on while thinking that a new roll appeared while you were sleeping.
Maybe getting “beach body ready” is more mental than physical. Realizing that everyone has flaws and no one is perfect makes us all on equal footing. Going to a beach, looking around and saying to yourself, “Hey, I’m not the biggest or the smallest, the prettiest or the ugliest, the most cellulite free or the tonest person here,” puts me somewhere in the middle, just like everyone else. Just go to spend time with friends and family and just enjoy that time. Not being self conscious, but just being thankful for another day of the sunshine hitting your face and the chance to smile and say thanks for that alone. Angie Muresan did a great post on not being critical of ourselves or others, check it out here.
So there it is the “How to have your body ready for the beach in five minutes” miracle. No sit ups required, just some mental aerobics. Are you beach body ready or should I say beach “brain” ready?

You make me smile!
Seriously. Not even close. Thanks for the wake up call. ;0)
Just have to enjoy time with family and friends. :O)
Living here in FL we’re suppose to beach body ready most of the year, but considering many hours of my day are sitting in front of my computer creating stories, I never really reach that hotbod status. And who cares. Like you said, it’s about enjoying life not looking perfect.
Too bad you can’t take your computer to a beach…… ah…….. faded out there for a bit, sorry ;O)
I’m not going to lie, the title of your post made me want to vomit a bit. Coffee came spewing out as I read that nasty title. But, fittingly enough, it was what was in your post- not the title on the outside that was perfect! Its true, we are average, and its all about mind set and confidence. Excuse me now while I go shave and find my tan in a can.
Sorry for any reguritation Alicia!
Ah Diane! You must have been reading my mind this week! I was just browsing for swimsuits and thinking the same thing!
It’s crazy that I need to look at bathing suits now in this weather. Oh well….
I just lost 7 pounds for my wedding…so I’m ready. Although I never see my body as bathing suit perfect. Just better than it was before!
The big day must be getting closer. Congrats!
Beach Body Ready? gah, not really, but I love your outlook on it ;o) I did buy an expensive bathing suit last season, so I can look my best at my current size, so I guess I’m as ready as I’ll ever be ;o)
I refuse to wear spandex in any form and I don’t find wearing spandex while sitting on sand a good idea at all.
I plan on working toward the idea of a beach body, though…even if I’m sure I’ll never put it to good use…LOL.
Hey, I’m asking writers to tell me their perspective of description on my blog today. I’d love to hear your opinions.
Are you kidding…?? Beach body ready?? I wished!!
Hugs, andrea
Thanks for letting me off the hook! I’ll hold on to my Ben & Jerry’s a little while longer!
What a freeing realization!
Have a great weekend!
Mental exercises are the best! My brain’s ready to hit the beach.
I am NOT beach body or brain ready at all! But this post made me smile, because you’re so right!
Not. Even. Close. As eager as my brain is for summer, my body dreads it! Ugh!
Ah, need to get ready in both respects! Thanks for the reminder.
Happy weekend!
Hi Diane -
The comfort foods and less trips to the gym line got to me. Sigh. The snowstorms make it easy to bail out on the gym. Chocolate, cookies, etc. aren’t helping matters.
Blessings,
Susan
I am so not ready yet
I’ve gotta get on it. Like you said, the cookies and cakes and comfort foods this winter have done me no favors. Fun post! Have a great weekend!
I’m scared to even think about trying on my bathing suit again! My desserts have been too tempting lately.
Hey do you have a new blog button?
Cheri
Yikes! I’m so not ready, physically or mentally! lol I hate swimsuits and really don’t get out much in them anymore. I’m okay with it.
Great post, Diane..especially for me! But…you already know that!
