About the Book
As I walked into the house, the scene I beheld was like something out of a movie. Every eye turned toward me, but no one spoke a word. ‘What’s wrong?’ As tears ran down my sister’s face, she said, with a voice filled with sobs, ‘Kathy’s dead; she’s been murdered.’
It was a cold November night in 1971 when thirteen-year-old Kathy Lynn Gloddy went missing, only to have her beaten, bruised body found the next day on the cold ground. Enter into the tragedy as Karen Beaudin vividly recounts the horrifying revelation of her younger sister’s death in A Child Is Missing–the shocking true story of a small New Hampshire town stunned by the revelation of such a brutal crime, and a family devastated by the loss of a beloved daughter and sister.
As Karen and her family search for justice, their faith will be tested in the battle against the guilt, fear, and devastating grief that comes when they realize every family’s worst nightmare: A Child Is Missing.

I have one brother who passed away 26 years ago. I also have three half-siblings I discovered when my birth mom and I found each other through a Dear Abby letter. So sorry for your loss. Marriott Cole, author, Grace, Miracles, and Chocolate
I believe in miracles and divine guidance. I wrote A Child is Missing when I was going through a tremendous trial in my life. I believe God led me all the way.
God has used this tragedy in my life for so much good. I work through Him and Kathy to make a difference. I’ve seen laws changed, Cold Case Units created, detectives educated on unsolved murders, families given hope, cases solved, and families empowered by knowledge on what they can do to bring attention to their cold case. All because of Him and my beautiful sister Kathy. I am blessed!
It’s almost an explicable feeling when I saw the cover of this book. It was beautiful and sad at the same time and after reading the synopsis and your comment on facebook and I can only assume the book is the same way. I look forward to reading this book.
Thank you Cynthia. A Child Is Missing is not just about my sister and her murder. I wanted people to know that murder follows a family for the rest of their lives. You never “get over it” or “forget it and move on” you learn to live with it.
I well remember that time. The whole community was sad.
I would love to read about it from the family point of view.
Deanna, it still haunts many in the area. I still have people contact me and tell me they will never forget.
This must have been a difficult book to write. I cannot imagine the grief.
Cindi, it was a very difficult book to write. I could not count the tears shed while writing it. In some ways it was a healing for me. At fifteen I was not allowed to mourn Kathy. My suffering was done in secret. I mourned her while I wrote. The sequel I’m working on is even more difficult. I am dealing with details of the murder. I’ve done almost three years of research and interviews before a word was written. Sometimes I can only write for three hours and then walk away. Some days I don’t write at all. In God’s timing it will be completed.
You are truly an inspiration. It’s obvious from what you mentioned above, that it’s God strength that has gotten you through the tragedy as well as the writing.
I’m sure that He has had you write this book, and the one/s to come, for a reason only He totally understands. At least we know it’s for His honor and glory, in the end.
{{{Hugs}}}
Thank you Cindi and Amen!
Such a horrible happening to have happen And, it happens to so many families. Yes, I do have siblings. I have 2 left from 7 siblings. But nothing really bad happened to any of us. Thank GOD. I pray he is with this family every day. I would love to win this book.

Dearest Lisa,
What can I say? I love you girl! So excited about your story, “Where’s Heidi” coming out soon. Hugs and more hugs!
Maxie,
Love them, hold them, and tell them how much you care.
I don’t have siblings but my husband has 3 sisters and some scary things were going on in the 70s in Santa Cruz, CA where he grew up.
Emi,
I lived in a small town. In the seventies we walked everywhere, didn’t lock our doors, and felt very safe. This was a shock to the whole community. It changed everything.
i have 4 sibling and i love them all…
Nurma,
I’m glad you have such love for your family.
I had one brother who died of SIDS, another committed suicide when in med school and my remaining brother is severly autistic. So I am very familiar with tragedy. Hugs and love to Karen.
Carol,
I’m sorry for all you have endured. My mom committee suicide, I write about it in the book. That was a tough one for me. A verse I cling to is II Timothy 1:7 “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”
Every book I’ve sold is signed with this reference. Hugs to you too!
I have a younger sister and brother.
Carla,
Love them!
Oh my! How tragic! Sounds like an incredible story. One I would love to win and read! Thanks for the giveaway.
Amy,
Good luck! I hope it will be an inspiration to many. Praise God for His Amazing Grace!
I have 3 children and 9 grandchildren. I lost 2 brothers at a very young age
Sandy,
Losing a sibling leaves a void in the heart. I’m sure your children and grandchildren have helped to fill that void. I know my grandchildren have made me laugh on days I though I never could.
No I don’t. Thanks for the chance to win!
Good luck Natasha!
I do
1 brother Danny (45)

Good luck!
I have 2 sisters and a brother and I love them so much.
Anne,
Isn’t it wonderful the things we can share with a sister or brother that we can’t share with anyone else? I miss what I might have shared with Kathy. I know she would have been such fun!
I do not have any siblings and my biggest wish throughout life is that I could have had a sister. I have cousins that I am close with but always wanted a sister.
Beth,
I hope you also have a wonderful female friend to share life’s views with. I know for me, a female friend that can give godly counsel is like a sister.
Yes, and I couldn’t imagine losing him. It makes me hurt just thinking about it.
Dorothy,
It is a pain that stays with you forever. I’ve tried to use it to make changes in law, help other families, and to educate law enforcement on the importance of a case being solved. In doing all of this I honor my beautiful butterfly….
Two siblings.
Corey,
Hopefully they live close by!
I have a brother and a sister. I couldn’t imagine losing one to such a horrific crime. I live in New Hampshire and have read about this case in the local newspapers. Such a tragedy!
Tiffany,
I still think of New Hampshire as home. I go back often promoting the New Hampshire Cold Case Unit that my sisters and I partitioned for. Sadly, they are in jeopardy of being dissolved at the end of June because of financing.
I have 3 older brothers.
Wow Amber! I wonder how tough it was being the only girl.
Nope.
I have 2 brothers, one 13 years older and one 3 years younger.
I have an older brother and a younger sister.
I have a younger brother and sister… And now young kids and nephews and nieces! I cannot imagine anything like this happening!
I have two older brothers. Family is everything next to God.
I have six living and one deceased.
I am an only child.

I have a little brother two years younger. He drives me crazy but I love him.
