The Convenient Groom by Denise Hunter

by Diane Estrella

Book Description

She wrote the book–literally–on finding the right mate. But does she really understand what love’s about?

Five hours before her Nantucket beach wedding–and on the eve of her big book launch–celebrity marriage counselor Kate Lawrence has everything in place.

Everything, that is, but the groom. She might not have a career, either, when her nationwide audience finds out their marriage guru has been left at the altar.

Enter Lucas Wright, who offers to stand in for the missing husband-to-be and marry her. Kate’s desperate enough to agree–although she’s sure this Mr. Wright is completely wrong for her. Can they pull it off? And why would Lucas marry her in the first place?

With her life spinning out of control, Kate wonders what good her carefully laid plans are if they only lead to chaos. Could it be that “Dr. Kate” doesn’t know the first thing about love? When she seeks God’s will instead of her own, Kate finally discovers true and lasting love.

My Review

What a roller coaster ride from the first page to the last!

The author takes an incredible, somewhat implausible event, marrying someone that you hardly know in five hours time, and makes the circumstances totally believable. To say the least, this was a fast page turner and I did not want to put the book down. The author did a wonderful job of fully developing the main characters and conveying how so much from their pasts, had brought them to this point in time. True love can conquer all even if you are opposites in every way. Love it not a formula and can not always be planned.

My only critique of this book is that although the cover is lovely, it did not convey the descriptions of the main characters the author wrote inside the pages. Other than that, this book is a must-read and I will be passing it along to many of my friends to enjoy Denise Hunter’s writing.

Gotta love "love stories" :0) …this one sounds like a fun book to read! Sometimes we need a book that is easy to read…doesn't require us to think much past the story line. I know I do.

Cheers

I must admit that the cover drew me in. So I was a bit disappointed to read it does not reflect the characters! For an author to make such an unbelievable event 'real', is talent indeed. I'll keep a look out for this one.

Thomas Nelson just re-released a bunch of her books all with new covers. I am a total cover art lover and this one is good but I was a little disappointed….

I LOVED this book!! And in discussing the cover, I have the first one which I personally like better :-) I don't always like for the characters to be given a face because sometimes I want to imagine how they look. I thought Lucas was the absolute greatest! If only he were real ;-)

You nailed it, including the cover aspect! This is my favorite Denise Hunter book. I read the original one. Lucas is so….well, you know ;) and I didn't picture him anything like the guy on this one.

Fabulous review. I didn't think I would be interested from just seeing the cover and title, but it sounds like I'd really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.
